Celebrating Canada 150 "Poster and Literary Contests"

Kiddo Magazine invites you to participate in our "POSTER AND LITERARY CONTESTS".  Kiddo Magazine is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2017, along with Canada's 150th anniversary! We encouraged you, young Canadians to join in and share with us your vision of "Canada 150". By participating in our special contests and events you will have the opportunity to win amaizing prizes!!!  Do not miss them!!!

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

Young Canadians aged 6 to 14 years old. Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada or legally allowed residents in the country at the time of the contests who fall within the age range.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

"Celebrate Canada 150", we are looking for entries that celebrate Canada’s culture and identity, illustrate young Canadians’ vision of Canada 150th celebration.

 

POSTER CONTEST
"CELEBRATING CANADA 150"

Contestants are challenged to exercise their creativity and submit a poster on the theme of “Celebrating Canada 150” in either colour or black and white.
This is a contest to select the most suitable posters submitted by children between 6 and 14 years old.
A plaque will be awarded to the 1st place winner in each category.
Prizes will be awarded on the recommendation of the judges, whose decision will be final.
On notification of having been selected as a winner, the artist agrees to the full and exclusive non-profit use of the art by Kiddo Magazine for the period of one year, after which all rights for usage revert to the artist.

Category 1: JUNIOR
AGES: 6 to 10 years old
Colour / Black and White

Category 2: INTERMEDIATE
AGES: 11 to 14 years old
Colour / Black and White

LITERARY CONTEST
"CELEBRATING CANADA 150"

Contestants are challenged to exercise their creativity and write an essay and/or poem on the theme of “Celebrating Canada 150”.
This is a contest to select the most suitable essays and poems submitted by children between 6 and 14 years old.
A plaque will be awarded to the 1st place winner in each category. Prizes will be awarded on the recommendation of the judges, whose decision will be final.
On notification of having been selected as a winner, the writer agrees to the full and exclusive non-profit use of the literary work by Kiddo Magazine for the period of one year, after which all rights for usage revert to the artist.

Category 1: JUNIOR

REGULATIONS

  1. All entries to be submitted before SEPTEMBER 30th, 2017.
  2. Artwork should be a minimum of 8.5 in x 11 in (21.59 cm x 27.94 cm) and no larger than 11 in x 17 in (27.9 cm x 43.2 cm) in size.
  3. Please use only the following for the contest entered:
    Colour poster: Full colour
    Black and White: Pencil, charcoal and/or India Ink.
  4. Entries will be judged on originality, expression of designated subject drawing and llustration.
  5. The poster shall reflect “CELEBRATING CANADA  150” theme. Canadian symbols such as Canadian and provincial flags, coats of arms, and representative flowers, birds or animals, as well as all forms of Canadian historical and current military dress may be used.
  6. COMPUTER GENERATED ENTRIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
  7. Contestants may enter both a Colour and a Black and White Poster, but may submit only one entry for each.
  8. 1st place winner posters will be published on our print magazine.  1st 2nd and 3rd place winners in all categories will be displayed at the “Canada is” expo at Mississauga and Toronto (dates to be announced).  All artwork will be returned to the artists after its display.
  9. For Schools, Groups and Summer Camps: Candidates must complete a Entry Form, available  HERE and attach it to their entry (no staples please). A representative from the school, group or Summer Camp (teacher, manager, etc) will collect all entries. Kiddo Magazine will coordinate to collect them at each place. Call us at 905 348 2125.
  10. For Individuals: Download and Fill Out the ENTRY FORM. Attach it to your entry (poster / essay-poem) (no staples please) and mail it to: 96 Sunfield Road, Toronto, ON, M3M2V3. You can also submit your entry by scanning your artwork + entry form and send it by E-mail at

    Essay: Junior Category (Ages: 6 to 10 years old) Candidates will submit a composition in prose of not more than 350 words. Intermediate Category (Ages: 11 to 14 years old): Candidates will submit a composition in prose of not more than 500 words
    Poem: Junior Category (Ages: 6 to 10 years old): Maximun of 32 lines.  Intermediate Category (Ages: 11 to 14 years old): Maximun of 32 lines.
  4. Entries will be marked on the basis of originality of thought, expression, presentation, grammar, spelling and Canadian content.
  5. The essay/poem shall reflect “CELEBRATING CANADA  150” theme.
  6. Candidates will use only one side of the page. Entries must not exceed the word or line limit.
  7. Contestants may submit an Essay and a Poem, but may submit only one entry for each category.
  8. 1st place winner posters will be published on our print magazine.  1st 2nd and 3rd place winners in all categories will be displayed at the “Canada is” expo at Mississauga and Toronto (dates to be announced).

JURORS

Each competition will have 3 jurors. To keep things as fair as possible, all judging of artwork will be done anonymously. Our jurors are being kept secret until the entry period closes and judging is done. The names of the jurors with full profiles will be posted along with the winners.
